ABSTRACT

This article develops the concept of “epistemic obligation” as a new foundation for human responsibility in the Anthropocene, one that is based neither on ontological superiority nor on instrumental utility. 

It demonstrates that responsibility follows directly from the epistemic capacity to anticipate consequences, thereby resolving the tension between biological equivalence and the necessity of human action. 

The model offers a theoretical framework for a life-centered ethics that provides concrete guidelines for political decision-making and intergenerational justice without hierarchical assumptions.
